Ethical, vegan, cruelty-free, and eco-friendly Make-up and Skin Care Products
When making purchases in our daily lives, it is hard to navigate which companies and brands have values that align with your own. In this article, I will share makeup and skin-care companies that are vegan, cruelty-free, eco-friendly, and high quality. I have either personally used or read numerous reviews about the products from all companies mentioned.
This company is the perfect place to find all things skin-care related. Their products range from deodorant, face wash, shampoo bars, face oils, and more. I have personally used their cream deodorant, which comes in a sustainable glass jar, and can say it is super effective even after long days of being in the sun. Their products are natural and all come in sustainable packaging! To find out more, click here.
Pacifica is a vegan, cruelty-free brand that is starting to appear in places such as Whole Foods, Target, and some drugstores. I have used many of their products, including nail polish, the Sea Foam Complete Face Wash, the Stellar Gaze Mascara, as well as several different face masks; all of which have been fabulous products. While their products are packaged in plastic, I have found that most are recyclable. I think this a great brand for vegan and cruelty-free products and is great for people who are transitioning from using products full of chemicals. I do not, however, think it is the best for eco-friendly packaging. To find out more about Pacifica, click here.
Ok, this brand is amazing. Plaine Products makes shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, and body wash that comes in containers that you can send in to have refilled once they are gone!! Not only that, but all of their products are vegan, cruelty-free, and made with natural ingredients! I have not personally tried Plaine Products yet, but I plan on ordering the shampoo and conditioner this coming month. I think this is perfect for people who want to ditch plastic packaging, but don’t want to use shampoo and conditioner bars either. Find out more here.
So it took my quite a while to find a sunscreen that comes in sustainable packaging. Luckily, Raw Elements is a company that sells sunscreen for both face and body in a reusable tin container. I used their face and body sunscreen during the summer when I had marching band rehearsal for 6 hours a day in the hot sun…I never got even a hint of sunburn while using their products. The only issue I have found is that the sunscreen contains beeswax, making it a non-vegan product. I will leave it up to you to try! Check them out here.
Another option is Juniperseed Mercantile, an etsy store that sells almost anything you can imagine for skin-care in sustainable packaging. I have personally not tried their products (yet!) and I believe their online store is currently down as they expand.
Eco Tan is a company that sells self-tanning products for both the body and face that are certified organic, vegan, and cruelty free. After reading numerous reviews about how amazing their products are, I bought myself the Face Tan Water. It gives a subtle hint of color to the skin, and has anti-aging and anti-acne properties. I apply this product at night with reusable cotton rounds, and always wake up with skin that looks healthy and sun-kissed, never “orangey.” The best part is that this product comes in a glass bottle! Other products from this company include body lotions, scrubs, and tanning mousse. Check them out here.
Making the switch to products that are better for the animals, the environment, and even yourself can seem overwhelming at times… especially with everything there is to think about.
Hopefully this list of companies has given you a start in terms of make-up and skin care. Remember to take it one step at a time, and to not be too hard on yourself. Take time to do your research on products and read reviews. Another great tip for transitioning instead of throwing out all of the current products you have (which would be wasteful!!) is to wait until a product runs out, and then make it your goal to replace it with a cruelty-free, vegan, and eco-friendly product.
Remember… what counts is that you are making the effort!!
